Award-winning home builder William Ryan Homes has unveiled on Nov. 27 Westleigh Farm, a 34-home luxury subdivision in North Shore which includes the original “Great Gatsby” mansion built in 1905.
Slated for construction on 26 lots are single-story ranch homes ranging in size from 2,400 to 4,500 sq. ft. Designed by North Shore Builders, these homes will have three to five bedrooms, partially-finished basements, full baths, covered rear decks, and custom kitchen cabinets. The remaining seven lots are being offered to buyers who want to construct custom homes.
On the 34th lot sits the mansion designed by Howard Doren Shaw for Charles Garfield King, businessman, financier and the father of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s first love. From 1915 through 1917, Ginevra King dated and eventually rejected the author, who used their story as inspiration for the 1925 novel “The Great Gatsby.” The mansion is currently on sale for $17 million.
Covering a total of 48 ac., half of the subdivision will be green space, with walking paths, ponds, and a shared community area called Central Lawn.
“A lot of people were drawn up to Lake Forest by its open spaces, its big lots,” said William Ryan Homes CEO Bill Ryan. “The open spaces planned for Westleigh Farm… include existing wooded areas, a to-be-built orchard, around a large swath of lawn and dense stands of trees planted atop tall sound-baffling berms along busy Kennedy Road.”
The first of the 26 pre-designed homes will begin December 2017. They are expected to be ready for occupancy by late summer of 2018.
