Whole Foods builds $15 million cold storage facility with Tax Increment Financing (TIP) support

Ryan Companies US, Inc., based in Minneapolis, is the general contractor for a $15 million cold food storage facility in Pullman which will become a Whole Foods distribution center. (The contractor has a local address in Naperville.)

Curbed Chicago reports the currently vacant 17-acre site at 716 E. 11th St. is expected to open in 2018, serving as many as 70 Whole Food stores in the midwest and Canada.

The grocery chain decided to move to the 140,000 sq. ft. development from a 100,000 sq. ft. location in Munster, IN in part because of Tax Increment Financing (TIF). Chicago approved the company’s request for $7.4 million in subsidies in mid 2016.

Architect Robert M. Lucius also is from Minneapolis.

Key subtrades include: Electrical, Electrical Design System Corp., Aurora; masonry, A. Horn, Inc., Barrington, and Scurto Cement Co., Palatine; plumbing, Hill Mechanical Corp., Franklin Park; refrigeration, AMS Mechanical Systems, Burr Ridge; and ventilation, State Mechanical Services, Aurora.
