Randall Blankenhorn to speak at SEAOI meeting

The Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI)  Government Affairs committee (GAC) has invited Randall S. Blankenhorn, Acting Illinois Transportation Secretary, to speak at September’s SEAOI dinner meeting on Sept. 1.

Blankenhorn leads the agency with a $2.8 billion operating budget that supports a workforce of 5,200 employees, with annual oversight of more than $3.2 billion in capital projects.

“In the current economic climate, it should be interesting to understand how Mr. Blankenhorn plans to tackle this challenge. Plan to attend to hear where he plans to focus his resources,” the SEAOI meeting announcement said.

Before his appointment, Blankenhorn was the executive director of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), leading that agency since its inception in 2006. At CMAP, Mr. Blankenhorn oversaw transportation, land use, housing, economic development, environmental and other quality-of-life issues in the seven county region of Northeastern Illinois.
