Metra stations receive funding

Long-planned Metra  projects are finally able to proceed, now that the state has released the necessary funding for construction.

Curbed Chicago is reporting that a total of $35 million has been turned over to Metra to build two new stations: one at Peterson Ridge and one at Auburn Park. According to website,Peterson Ridge is getting $15 million and Auburn Park is receiving $20 million.

Andre Vasquez, alderman for the 40th ward, posted a description of the Peterson Ridge plan on his website. On it, he said the station will “primarily consist of an elevated platform and station house located between Peterson Avenue and Ridge Avenue.” It will also “include space for up to 75 parking spaces on the west side of Ravenswood south of Peterson…There will also be a small number of disabled parking spaces to the north of Peterson, in a new plaza that will be put in where the current embankment sits.”

According to Vasquez, “work on the station expected to begin in Spring 2020 and a target completion date in Spring 2021.”
