A ground breaking in early November marked the next step in the development of the new Elevate project from Baker Development Corp.

Designed by SCB, the 10-story project will add 16,300 sq. ft. of ground level retail space, 191 apartments and 138 parking spaces in a horseshoe-shaped design.

Baker Development reports on its website that getting to this stage involved navigating a complex purchase agreement for the iconic Apollo Theatre building and additional commercial component. In the end, negotiating “a settlement by agreeing to sell the Apollo Theater building while retaining the air rights for future development. In addition, BDC has contracted to purchase 30 condominiums above the commercial component.”

Chicago Curbed had earlier reported the design would feature “191 high-end rental units, an elevated central terrace, rooftop pool, ground floor retail, and three levels of parking.”
