Centrum Partners’s proposal to build a small private school with ground-level retail at 2720 N. Clark St. is moving forward with the demolition of the structure previously at the corner of Clark St, and Schubert Ave, chicagoarchitecture.org reports.

Hirsch Associates has designed a two-story, 20,000-square-foot building for the site, with retail space slated for the ground floor, while AltSchool occupies the second floor. A Banana Republic Factory store will occupy one of the retail spaces, while a tenant for the second space is yet to be determined. Parking will be located to the west, off the alley that runs parallel to Clark.

Altschool will lease the space from Centrum Partners. The “micro-school” will enroll about 100 to 150 students, with an annual tuition of $25,000. There’s no word yet on which retailers will be moving into the ground level, though John McLinden with Centrum Partners reportedly promised “a step above” what’s currently on Clark St.

William A. Randolph, Inc. of Gurnee is the general contractor. Construction is expected to be completed in time for the 2017 school year.
