BlitzLake Partners has broken ground on a 22-unit apartment building with 5,100 sq. ft. of ground-floor retail at 2448 N. Lincoln Ave., and a smaller nine-unit project with 1,200 square feet of retail across Montana at 2462 N. Lincoln.

The development has been advanced by Ald. Michele Smith (43rd) as a key part of economic renewal along Lincoln Ave. at the midway point between the new Lincoln Common development on the old Children’s Memorial Hospital site and Elevate Lincoln Park on the old Lincoln Centre site.

The development is just one of several new projects underway on the stretch of Lincoln Ave., Curbed Chicago reports. Just north on Lincoln, a new rental development is expected to deliver 191 apartments and 16,300 sq. ft. of ground level retail space.

Meanwhile, just to the south, the ambitious $350 million overhaul of the former Children’s Memorial Hospital will eventually see the construction of twin 20-story residential towers, a seven-story assisted living structure, 105,000 sq. ft. of retail space, and 850 parking stalls.

In addition, DePaul University continues working on its new music school building near the Lincoln, Halsted, and Fullerton intersection.

According to DNAinfo, the Illinois Railway Museum plans to salvage fragments of the building’s exterior ornamentation.
