Chicago has issued a $30 million building permit to Tamdem Construction Ltd. to construct a 23-story mixed-use building at 730 N. Milwaukee Ave.

The building includes apartments, parking and ground floor retail, and includes renovations and alterations to an adjacent existing three-story office building.

Baldridge and Associates Structural Engineering (BASE) reports on its website that the project has some unique design challenges.

The building consists of two large setbacks resulting in an eccentric core.  This is further compounded by a 42-degree kink in the plan which allows the building to be placed in an oddly shaped site.  As the project evolved, additional floors were added and floor-to-floor heights were increased.  BASE worked closely with the owner and architect to minimize impacts on unit layouts and refined the design to continue with a single core building.

The architect is Joseph M. Antunovich. Key subtrades include: ElectricalGurtz Electric Company; masonryAdjustable Forms Inc.; plumbing Doherty Mechanical, Inc.; and refrigeration and ventilationGT Mechanical Product & Design,,
