$24.5 million permit issued warehouse foundation on former Crawford Power Generating Station site

Chicago has issued a $24,545,535 foundation-services building permit for a warehouse at  the site of the former Crawford Power Generating Station in Little Village.

The permit issued on Nov. 20 to Hilco Redevelopment Partners (HRP), is for a “proposed one-story, high bay, pre-cast warehouse on shallow footings utilizing sol stabilization to include underslab plumbing.”

HRP says it “plans to construct a modern, one million sq. ft. logistics facility on the 70 acre site that will be known as “Exchange 55”. As part of the new development, HRP has commenced the remediation and demolition of the existing structures.”

The general contractor is Morgan/Harbour Construction.

HRP says on its website that the former power generating station, originally built in 1924, was “closed in 2012 after a 12-year discussion process with the neighborhood over environmental issues and has remained dormant since Midwest Generation filed for bankruptcy in 2012.”

For the latest permit, key subtrades include: ElectricalConnelly Electric Co.; masonry M – J.T.J. Contractors and Builders; plumber/plumbingMVP Plumbing Corp.; and ventilationState Mechanical Services.
