Construction has started on a daycare/early childhood education center in Wicker Park.

The Jewish Council for Youth Services is building the Michael R. Lutz Family Center at 2129 W. North Ave., which will provide summer day camps and before and after-school programs , as well as pre-school and kindergarten classes.

The new building will replace a former educational toys and puzzles manufacturer, DNAInfo reports. The owners had originally planned to renovate the old building, but decided that it made more sense to demolish and rebuild.

OKW Architects has designed the 12,000 sq. ft., two-story building with an exterior of cast stone, slate and wood-like siding. Summit Design + Build, LLC is the general contractor.
