The Glen Ellyn Park District board of commissioners has recently asked the developers to move forward with phase 2 of the Lake Ellyn improvement project with the final addition of a boathouse upgrade, according to executive director Dave Harris.

“For the past year, this plan has kind of sat on the sidelines and the challenging part was determining how to fund some or many of the elements that were identified in the master plan,” said Harris, reports Dailyherald.com.

Elmhurst, IL-based Conservation Design Forum and Chicago-based Farr Associates are responsible for the project. The $2.7 million work includes restoring the historic boathouse, replacing all trails on the west side of the park with permeable materials, creating nature trails in the woodland area, landscape enhancements with plant restoration and natural planting as well as stabilizing the lakes and replacing playground. The developers will also place a permeable paved sidewalk parallel with Lenox Rd.

The construction will start in mid-July 2015 and is expected to be over by May 2016.

There had been no changes to the park and boathouse in decades. For details, click here.
