A new $21.5 million Metra station will be opened the corner of 79th St. and Fielding Ave. in Auburn Gresham on Chicago’s far South Side, State Sen. Jacqueline Collins (16th) and Gov. Pat Quinn have announced.
“I have been fighting for this station since 2009 and now it’s finally here,” Collins was quoted as saying in dnainfo.com. “My hat goes off to Gov. Quinn who made this happen by funding the station.”
Construction will will start next spring, with completion expected sometime in 2015.
“People without cars cannot spend money on goods and services if they cannot get to businesses or jobs,” said Quinn. “This new station would undoubtedly provide a way for them to do both while also creating an interest in the South Side for future business.”
