Chicago has issued a building permit what will be a 44-story cylindrical tower in Chicago’s West Loop known as One South Halsted.
The city issued the $136 million permit on Jan. 27.
Curbed Chicago reports the project’s co-developers are Fifield Companies and F & F Realty, with design led by FitzGerald Architects, and says the structure will be the tallest building in the area.
The building permit issued with a listed address of 727 W. Madison St. says: “Direct developer service — Foundations and structural – only to underside of eighth floor for proposed 44-story mixed use tower with 375 proposed parking spaces.”
The general contractor is Lend Lease US Construction. Key subtrades listed on the permit include: Plumbing — Doherty Mechanical, Inc.; masonry — All Masonry Const. Co. Inc.; ventilation — Heatmasters Inc.; and electrical — Bonus Electric.
Curbed Chicago says the tower “will replace the Crowne Plaza’s surface lot just west of the Kennedy Expressway in the heart of Greektown.”
The tweaked design still features an ellipse-shaped tower connected to an 80-foot boxy podium topped by an amenity level. While the podium is fairly unremarkable, the upper portion will feature a metal and glass facade system with a two-toned spiral pattern that should look pretty interesting if realized as rendered.
