Chicago has issued a $35 million building permit for what will become the city’s first Ace Hotel at 311 N. Morgan St. in the Fulton Market district.

Power Construction Co. is the general contractor for the seven story, 159 room hotel with 30 underground parking spaces, first floor retail and a 10,700 sq. ft. green roof.

“The trendy Portland, Oregon-based hotel group signed a deal to open a boutique hotel on the site of a two-story warehouse at 311 N. Morgan St. that Chicago developer Sterling Bay Cos. bought for $4 million about a year ago, according to people familiar with the deal,” Chicago Real Estate Daily reported in 2014. “The location fits the bill for Ace, which often chooses transforming neighborhoods that have yet to become too mainstream.”

Donald G. Cooper is listed as the architect. GREC Architects has designed the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles. The plumbing contractor is James P. O’Sullivan in Mokena, while REX Electric & Technologies LLC  will be the electrical contractor.
